The
Women’s Resource Committee currently publishes the Women’s
Resource Guide of San Diego County. The guide is a listing of detailed
referrals for pregnant women and for women with small children. The
majority of the guide’s listings are agencies that serve low-income
women. Major referral headings include: Hotlines; Medical Care; Special
Needs Children; Financial Assistance and Material Needs; Housing; Adoption
Services; Legal Assistance; Pregnancy Education; Childbirth Preparation;
Recovery Programs, Counseling and Support Groups; Immigrant and Refugee
Women; Domestic Violence; Military Families; College Women; and Youth.
The guide is designed for the medical professional, social worker, counselor
and religious leader whose assistance is often sought by women in need.
Detailed information under major referral headings and brief summaries
of services offered by listed agencies allow for a more efficient referral
process. Complimentary guides are distributed to San Diego County healthcare
professionals, social service agencies, churches, school counselors,
Residential Assistants and law enforcement. These organizations are
also given brochures (in English and Spanish) with abbreviated information
from the guide that women can take home with them.
Over time, the Women’s Resource Guide has become the preferred
resource guide for thousands of health care, counseling and social service
professionals. Surveys indicate that the guide is prized for it’s
comprehensive nature, accuracy of detailed information and effectiveness
in meeting the wide-range of needs their clients present.
The
Women’s Resource Guide enjoys broad community support and has
received commendations from the San Diego County Board of Supervisors,
the California State Legislature and San Diego City Councilman Brian
Maienschein.
